Have you ever noticed how a song can reach places within us that ordinary words cannot? Music can carry an idea beyond the mind and place it directly into the heart. I’ve written Fourth Day Letters and books, but recently I began wondering whether I could write song lyrics that might touch someone in a different way. So, I set out to try, and today I want to share with you what came from that effort. I invite you to read more.
I began by writing lyrics based on the themes of my new book, Living Out the Lord’s Supper: Why the Table Is Just the Beginning. Then I used an artificial-intelligence music program as a creative production tool to develop the musical setting for each song. Some people may hear the words “artificial intelligence” and assume the computer did everything. That is not quite how it works.
There are often misunderstandings about how AI-generated music is created. I wrote the lyrics and meticulously chose the musical styles, instruments, vocal tones, tempo, mood, and overall direction for each song. The AI program simply served as a tool to help bring that vision to life, but it took considerable time, careful listening, and repeated refinement. Only after multiple iterations did I finally arrive at the finished songs you hear today.
The result is a collection of nine songs in several musical styles, including country, contemporary Christian, soulful gospel, and quartet-style harmonies. Each song explores one part of the journey described in the book.
Chosen Before Time reminds us that our lives are not accidents. Long before we understood God or knew what He might ask of us, He had already chosen us and called us His own.
Blessed Before I Knew It reflects on the blessings that surrounded us even before we recognized their source. Looking backward, we often discover that God was present in moments we did not understand at the time.
Broken Ain’t the End declares that brokenness does not have the final word. God does not discard what is wounded. In His hands, our broken places can become openings through which grace reaches others.
Somebody Needs Your Story focuses on being shared. The stories we may be most tempted to hide could become the very stories God uses to bring hope to someone who believes they are alone.
The Table Was the Beginning expresses the central message of the book. The Lord’s Supper is not merely the conclusion of worship. It sends us into the world to become living signs of Christ’s love.
You’re Not Alone speaks to those seasons when suffering, temptation, grief, or uncertainty leave us feeling isolated. God remains close, and He frequently reaches us through the presence of others.
Sea of Purple grew out of an exercise I use during my retreats. Early in the retreat, each person receives a small piece of purple paper and is invited to write their wounds on one side of the paper and their brokenness and/or recurring sins on the other. Later in the retreat, I ask everyone to look around the room and realize that they are sitting in a virtual sea of purple. Every person carries hidden wounds, struggles, and brokenness, yet each life also contributes something unique and beautiful.
Why Me gives voice to a question most of us have asked. Why was I chosen? Why did this happen? Why would God use someone like me? Perhaps the better question is not simply, “Why me?” but, “What are You asking me to do with what I have received?”
The final song, What I Was Chosen For, is one of my favorites. It attempts to capture the excitement of the entire book, beginning with the discovery that we were chosen and leading us toward what we were chosen for: to bear fruit, serve others, and help build the Kingdom of God. I felt the best way to express that joy was through a soulful gospel sound, so be prepared to clap your hands, sing along, and celebrate the purpose for which we were chosen.
I’m excited to share that my first music album, Living Out the Lord’s Supper, is now scheduled for worldwide release on August 27, 2026. The album features nine original songs inspired by the themes of my book Living Out the Lord’s Supper: Being at the Table Is Just the Beginning. It will be available on major streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, and many others. I’ll be sharing more details and links as the release date approaches, and I hope these songs will encourage you in your own journey of faith.
This was my first experience creating songs, and I am not a trained musician, singer, or composer. I wrote the lyrics and shaped the artistic direction of each song, then used AI technology as the instrument through which the music was developed. The process required patience, discernment, and many revisions before the words, voices, instrumentation, and musical styles expressed what I hoped to communicate. These songs grew from the message of my book and from many years of prayer, ministry, and reflection. They have touched my heart, and my hope is that somewhere among these nine songs, one of them might touch yours too.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of music, for the way it reaches places within us that words alone cannot always touch. We are told that those who sing pray twice, and we know that beautiful, meaningful music can quiet our hearts, lift our spirits, and draw us closer to You. Help us listen for Your voice in every melody that inspires, comforts, and strengthens us. May the music we hear and the songs we sing deepen our faith and fill our hearts with gratitude. Amen!
