Packages arrive on our doorstep in all shapes and colors. We are often surprised by what’s inside. Some packages are better than others. Some can bring great joy and excitement, yet others bring disappointment. God sends us packages too. I invite you to discover what He sends.
I don’t believe that I have ever written a poem before in my life. I claim no poetic skill, yet for some reason, the Holy Spirit moved me to write one the other day during my Morning Prayer time and prompted me to share it with you. The message seemed to come out of the blue. I hope it touches you.
PACKAGES FROM GOD
The package arrived on time today,
with morning’s dawn it came my way.
I’ve received these gifts many times before
some with surprise and fun to explore.
Some left me sad or deeply confused,
some brought me grief and heart breaking news.
Others brought joy, a smile to my face,
they brought a friend’s care and loving embrace.
Each package that I’m speaking of
is a new day from God above.
Times past have shown that some days were good,
some were not what I’d wished they would.
A day will come I do not know when
package arrival will suddenly end.
Until then, when each package arrives
I’ll untie the ribbon to see what’s inside.
No matter what type of day it might be,
I know in my heart God is always with me.
With God’s Son my Savior, His Spirit a dove,
I’ll trust in His wisdom and walk in His love.
When no package arrives on some fateful date,
God’s hand I’ll hold tight and pass through the gate.

Heavenly Father, I thank you for the gift of each new day. Your precious Son, Jesus lights my way and your Holy Spirit strengthens me during times of trial and grief. Keep me always close to you on this journey through life. Please bring me home to you when my days here are done. Amen!

Indeed, a day is a gift. Like a package come to be opened. My favorite ones often come on Sundays, not the usual day for UPS or USPS or FedEx, but GOD sends them ( and I am not talking of the Guaranteed Overnight Delivery Company either! They went out of biz.) God is good and dependable and generous– all the time.

This beautiful poem reminds me of the many packages that I, along with my family and friends, have opened. You are so right, some are gifts that are easy to accept, while others are gifts as well, but much harder to open and process. Thank you for this beautiful “package” on this cold Tuesday morning.
