Proper Alignment

Proper wheel alignment plays a vital role. Your car’s wheel alignment impacts fuel efficiency, tire wear, tire performance, vehicle handling and maneuverability. Proper wheel alignment ultimately determines your vehicle’s steering response. In a similar way, proper Spiritual Alignment is vitally important. Are you overdue for a spiritual alignment? Please read more…….

Matthew 6:21 states the following: “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” The same could also be said for where your thoughts and time are, because there too will your heart also be.

Where do your spend the majority of your free time? What do you spend time thinking about? What things do you spend your money on? It has been said that where we spend our time, thoughts and money reflect our true ideal in life. Would our answers to these questions show us that Jesus is our true ideal, or would it reflect something much different? By answering these questions we can complete our alignment diagnostics test. Our ideal guides us in what we pursue in life. Our ideal may need to be realigned.

When your car is out of alignment it often pulls to the right or left, it causes uneven tire wear, and your steering wheel is usually crooked when you are driving straight. A bad alignment can cause a car to hydroplane on wet payment and perhaps worst of all, it can cause a tire to blow out and leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere. Because of these potential issues, most mechanics recommend doing a wheel alignment every two to three years.

Sadly, some of us never seem to make time for a spiritual alignment. Spiritually speaking, when we are out of alignment, we tend to veer to the right or the left of the straight path God has set out for us. If our spiritual alignment goes unchecked, it can lead to us to have a spiritual blow out and find ourselves stranded on the roads of life.

Look at the long list of damaging things that can happen to your car if it is out of alignment and answer this question: Since a tire alignment usually only takes about one hour to do, why do so many people neglect doing it until it is too late and leads to a costly repair? Usually they just don’t make time for it. Maybe we also deem ourselves too busy to take the necessary time to complete a spiritual alignment.

Proper car alignment is a somewhat elaborate process. Appropriately completed, it brings the car’s suspension into its proper configuration, positioning and adjusting components so that wheels are aligned with one another and the road surface. Likewise spiritual alignment is so much more than just making sure we are following God’s laws.

Devout Jews and Muslims have a yearning to do God’s Will and follow His precepts. What makes a spiritual alignment different for Christians? We know and understand that our proper alignment is much more than renouncing the world and spending time in spiritual meditation. Doing only these things is like only partially aligning your car. Real, true, spiritual growth and alignment with God comes only from one source, and that source is Jesus Christ.

We must spend time reflecting on, praying over and accepting the infinite outpouring of love and grace offered to us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We can drive straight on the path of life only when our will is aligned with God’s Will. To be correctly aligned we must learn to surrender to the One who gave Himself for us out of love.

All of the following should be included in a thorough spiritual alignment: prayer, reading Scripture, partaking in the Sacraments, reflecting on the lives of the many holy men and woman who have walked faithful Christian journeys before us and spending time in Christian community with other believers. But alone, these aren’t enough. Our underlying focus must always be on Jesus Christ.

A detailed diagnostic process should help us to evaluate and see if Jesus is our true ideal and main focus in life. So to help you in this process I have attached a spiritual alignment diagnostic tool. Please click here to access it.

Heavenly Father, if my car needs an alignment every 2-3 years, then certainly my spiritual life needs an alignment much more often. Please send forth your Holy Spirit to convict me in truthfulness as I answer the questions on this diagnostic tool. Help me to see where proper alignment is needed and guide me to make the necessary changes, Amen.

      Don

We are all broken and in need of an alignment. It is hard to take an honest look at ourselves, but it is so important to do. I am glad this touched you.

      God bless
